Creativity can be found on every corner in Athens with murals and public artwork decorating the streets of the city. Keep an eye out for designed fire hydrants, bus shelters, bulldog statues honoring University of Georgia, mosaic light pole bases, murals and more. 

 

Lyndon House Arts Center  

Originally housed within the historic Ware-Lyndon House, the Lyndon House Arts Center is a community visual arts complex celebrates cultural diversity through art with rotating contemporary exhibitions, an expansive art education program, a children’s wing and a curated gallery shop.

African American Heritage Pathway 

Launched in 2022, the African American Heritage Pathway honors the Black communities and history in Athens. Start at the Ware-Lyndon House’s dedicated exhibit to the stories of enslaved African Americans, visit landmarks such as a local church and the first school for Black Athenians and reflect on the history and legacy of African Americans in Athens. 

 

State Botanical Garden 

Crawling through State Botanical Garden

Georgia’s official botanical garden is one of Athens’ most-visited attractions, offering more than 300 acres of picturesque nature trails, art installations and a beautiful conservatory. Don’t miss the Children’s Garden for interactive, outdoor education and fun or the Porcelain & Decorate Arts Museum, one of the world’s largest porcelain collections and the newest addition to the garden.
